Longtime Owner wins first Stakes in Ontario

Owner Mickey Demers wins his first Stakes in Ontario with Souper Success winning the $100,000 Woodstock Stakes on April 27 at Woodbine Racetrack.

Souper Success was purchased as a yearling for $15,000 out of the 2017 CTHSOntario Canadian-Bred sale, with trainer Mike De Paulo as agent for Mickey.
After his Woodstock win, with Jockey Jesse Campbell aboard, Souper Speedy has now earned more than $110,000 with 2 wins and 1 second in his 3 career starts.

Mickey Demers began owning Thoroughbreds in Alberta with partners Gary Mailloux and Viking Stable in 2001.

The partnership enjoyed early success with Stakes winner Alta Aire winning the Bird of Pay Stakes in 2003 at Northlands Park with trainer Joan Petrowski.

In 2009 Tiny Giant would thrill the partners by winning the Alberta Premiers Handicap at age 2.

Trained by Joan Petrowski, Tiny Giant would make 41 starts for the partnership, winning a total of 12 races including the Red Diamond Express and the Sun Sprint Handicap Stakes in 2014. His wins, along with 14 seconds and 3 thirds, tallied purse earnings of more than $440,000 for the partnership which continues to race horses together today with trainer Joan Petrowski in Alberta.

Mickey has also been involved in various other ownership partnerships and has owned horses on his own since 2005.
